Addendums to OFC by Jackson Township 2006

 

Resolution to adopt the 2005 Ohio Fire Code with Jackson township addendums to the Ohio Fire Code and establish a Permit/Fee Schedule as set forth in Section(s) 105.1.1, 105.1.1.2 and Appendix A.  Ohio Administrative code 1301:7-7-01 of the Ohio Fire Code 2005 edition passed April 4, 2006 by the Jackson Township Board of Trustees.

 

 

 

 

503.2.8 Fire fighting access and operations- For all public or private roadways or access roads where the width of the roadway is deemed inadequate to provide the fire department with sufficient room to maneuver and operate fire apparatus and in the interest of public safety, the fire code official may require that the roadways be posted as “No Parking.”  The signs shall be of approved type, size and height.

 

 

Fire Hydrant Painting

 

508.5.7 Fire Hydrant Painting:

Public Fire Hydrants shall have two coats of Sherwin Williams Industrial Enamel Alkyd Coating Safety Yellow B54 Y 37 or equivalent prior to the Fire Department’s acceptance of the fire hydrants.  The Jackson Township Fire Department shall approve equivalent.

 

(A) Public hydrants shall be painted completely with the referenced paint.

 

(B) Private fire hydrants shall be painted as a public hydrant except that the crown (top) and caps to the hydrant discharges shall be painted reflective enamel white.

 

(C) Private hydrants installed on a commercial fire loop that are pressurized by means of a fire pump shall be painted bright red enamel.

 

(D) Private fire hydrants on a commercial fire loop not pressurized by means of a fire pump must be painted bright red enamel with reflective white enamel crown (top) and reflective white enamel discharge caps.

 

Fire Protection Systems

 

Fire Department Connections:

All fire department connections and standpipes shall be installed in accordance with the referenced standards of the Ohio Building Code listed in Chapter 35 and as deemed necessary upon review by the Code Official.

 

912.3.2 Location:

The fire department connections to all fire protection systems installed within this jurisdiction shall be located not more than seventy-five (75) feet from the nearest publicly owned fire hydrant.  In areas where public water system is not available, fire department connections shall be located no less than five (5) feet from the fire department access.

 

 

 

 

912.3.3 Maintenance of Fire Department Connection:

All fire department connections to a fire protection system shall be painted bright red enamel as approved by the fire code official and shall be provided with bright red breakaway caps to the inlets.  All other maintenance reference NFPA 25.

 

912.3.4 Protection of freestanding (non-building mounted) Fire Department Connections:

Fire Department Connections shall be protected by bollards on four sides of the connection.  The bollards shall not obstruct the intake inlets.

 

915 False Alarms from Fire Alarm/Protection Systems: Jackson Township (2005 Edition):

Upon receipt of the third false alarm and each false alarm thereafter, from a fire alarm/protection system to an alarm center, within one calendar year, and whereby the fire code official determines the alarm to be false or inappropriate, the building owner/occupant, or responsible party shall be charged no less than $300.00.

 

915.1 Continued False Alarms from Fire Alarm/Protection Systems:

Upon receipt of six (6) or more false alarms from a fire alarm/protection system to an alarm center, within one calendar year, and whereby the fire code official determines the alarm to be false or inappropriate, the building owner/occupant, or responsible party shall be charged no less than $500.00 for each occurrence.

 

915.1.2 Exemption:

Single family residences shall be excluded from section 915.  However, any multi-family residence with a afire alarm or fire protection system that is required by the Ohio Building or Ohio Fire Code shall be included for section 915 and 915.1.

C106.1

Fire Hydrant Installation:

All fire hydrants shall be provided with watch valves and installed and located per the City of Columbus Construction and Material Specification guide item #809.03 and conform to standard C-GC-31 (City of Grove City).

 

Fire Hydrant Water Mains:

Fire Hydrants shall not be installed on a water main of less than 8 inches in diameter.

 

Fire Hydrant Spacing

General:

Where a condition exists in a development area with more than one O.B.B.C. Use Group, the greater requirements shall be applied.

 

Industrial Development - Use Groups F and H; Commercial Development Use Groups R-1, A, B, E, I, M and S; Multi-Family Development Use Groups R-2, R-3 and Multi-Single Family:

  1. The maximum distance between adjacent fire hydrants is 300 feet.
  2. One (1) fire hydrant shall be provided to within 150 feet of the terminus dead-end streets.

 

Single-Family Developments - Use Group R-4:

  1. The maximum distance between adjacent fire hydrants is 400 feet
  2. One (1) fire hydrant shall be provided within 200 feet of the terminus of dead-end streets.
