Engine 202 first to circle new roundabout

Jackson Township Fiscal Officer Ron Grossman and Township Administrator Michael Lilly, and City of Grove City officials attended the Franklin County Engineer’s ribbon-cutting ceremony held Oct. 23, 2015 to officially open the new roundabout at Alkire and Demorest roads. Jackson Township Division of Fire Engine 202 was the first to drive through the new roundabout.

Dozens of residents and members from neighboring Faith Community Church of God attended with Pastor Ronald Elie offering a blessing.

The new roundabout is the second to open in Jackson Township. The first roundabout to open is on Buckeye Parkway in Grove City, Ohio.

Modern roundabouts are safer than traditional intersections that have more conflict points and operate at higher speeds. Roundabouts provide nearly an 80 percent reduction in injury accidents since the circular layout dramatically reduces the likeliness of head-on or broadside collisions.
